Juve contre Fantômas
Where better to start this blog than with the series that first drew me to Starace's work, Marcel Allain and Pierre Souvestre's Fantômas novels? So why start with the second novel in the series? Starace was a house artist for publisher Arthème Fayard, and provided cover illustrations for the following 31 novels in the series, but the iconic cover of the first novel, that continues to spawn admiring imitations to this day, went unsigned. Perhaps it was by Gino Starace, perhaps not. It shouldn't legitimately be here (yet). There's plenty more to be looking at first.
